Books Unbanned
In honor of Banned Books Week (October 1 – 7), we’re joining the national Books Unbanned initiative. Our new digital card gives teens throughout the state of California access to our eBooks and audiobooks on Libby.
Teen Read Month
We’re throwing a month-long celebration of teens and reading! Check out our booklist and reading-themed events at our libraries, or write a 6 word book review (harder than you may think) to earn a prize.
Bookmark Contest
There are still 3 weeks to submit! Kids and teens in grades K – 12 are invited to celebrate books, reading, and art by participating in our 44th Annual Bookmark Contest for a chance to see their designs featured at their local library and across LA County.
Scary Movies
October is a great time to get cozy and watch a horror or thriller flick! Bonus: this October brings a very special (and spooky) Friday the 13th. Stream scary movies free from Kanopy’s curated list! Note that many of these titles are rated R.
LGBTQ+ History Month
Throughout October, we are recognizing the the rich and varied narratives that make up our LGBTQ+ community! In addition to booklists, videos, and activity ideas, we’re highlighting 4 very influential people.
Library Fest!
Join us September 30 from 1- 4 pm at Lennox and La Verne for Library Fest! Can’t make it then? We’ll have 4 more opportunities in October for our friends and neighbors to come together for an afternoon filled with fun activities for all ages!
Vaccine Clinics
We’re partnering with the Department of Public Health to provide free flu vaccines, updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccines, MPOX vaccines, and school readiness vaccines for children (VFC). No health insurance required.
Trailblazers in Conversation
On October 12, join Uchenna Nwosu, Carson Library customer and Seattle Seahawks player, and Library Director Skye Patrick, as they discuss opportunities for youth, sports, financial literacy, and the My Brother’s Keeper Peer Advocate Program.
