Manhattan Beach Library Speaker Series to Launch with Renowned Alpinist, Photographer, & Author Cory Richards
Connecting the community with inspiring voices, the Manhattan Beach Library Speaker Series sparks meaningful dialogue and cultural enrichment across diverse topics.
The City of Manhattan Beach and LA County Library are thrilled to announce the launch of their highly anticipated Manhattan Beach Library Speaker Series, with its inaugural event featuring world-renowned alpinist, photographer, and author Cory Richards. On Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Richards will present an exclusive talk at Manhattan Beach Library, sharing insights from his memoir, The Color of Everything, and his latest book, Bi-Polar, a powerful visual exploration of the emotional polarities that have defined his life and career.
Richards is widely celebrated for his daring expeditions and extraordinary photography, earning accolades such as National Geographic Adventurer of the Year. As the first and only American to summit an 8,000-meter peak in winter, his groundbreaking climb was captured in the award-winning documentary Cold and featured on the cover of National Geographic’s 125th-anniversary issue. In Bi-Polar, Richards offers a stunning collection of 300 photographs, evoking themes of hope and fear, awe and contempt, and love, while exploring the intricate relationship between humanity and the natural world.
“We are excited to debut the Manhattan Beach Library Speaker Series, which reflects our commitment to providing engaging and thought-provoking programming for the community,” said County Librarian & CEO, Skye Patrick. “Having the support of the City of Manhattan Beach and the local community makes this series possible, and we are honored to kick it off with Cory Richards, whose storytelling and experiences are sure to inspire. This collaboration is a testament to the strength of our partnership with the city and our shared goal of fostering a space for learning, dialogue, and inspiration.”
“It’s a true honor to to be part of the Manhattan Beach Library Speaker Series,” said speaker Cory Richards. “Through my work and my books, The Color Of Everything and Bi-Polar, my aim is to shed light on the mind, heart, and the highs and lows that define the human experience. My greatest hope is that this event cracks us open and moves us toward embracing our own journeys in all their complexity and marvelousness. Above all, it is a call to examine the stories we tell, a celebration of neurodivergence, and invitation to break the story of broken.”
