LA County Library Programs Win National Achievement Awards
Three LA County Library programs have won Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The following programs were recognized for strengthening services to Los Angeles County residents:
Diaper & Menstrual Hygiene Kit Giveaways at Libraries
The cost of diapers, wipes, and menstrual products can put a strain on families that have been disproportionally devastated by the pandemic and continually rising costs. To address this issue, LA County Library created a pilot program to distribute free diapers, baby wipes, and menstrual hygiene products at five high-need libraries in each of LA County’s five Supervisorial Districts. Equity-Focused Virtual Library Programs: Heart & Hand and Trailblazers in Conversation
In support of Los Angeles County’s Anti-Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion Initiative, LA County Library launched two new virtual program series: Heart & Hand Book Talks and Trailblazers in Conversation. Held live on Zoom with recordings posted on YouTube, these talks feature Library Director Skye Patrick and authors and changemakers who are having an impact in LA County and beyond. Learn more.
Tool Lending Library
In an effort to support Los Angeles County residents during a tough post-pandemic economy, LA County Library launched a Tool Lending Library at its Rosemead, Compton, San Fernando, Norwalk, and Lancaster libraries. The Tool Lending Library includes tools for electrical work, gardening, sewing and clothing repair, cooking and baking, auto repair, bike repair, and crafting. Learn more.
NACo Achievement Awards recognize innovative county government programs. LA County Library is among a select group of departments across Los Angeles County to receive Achievement Awards for 2023.
“We are thrilled that three of our innovative programs have been honored with National Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties,” said Library Director Skye Patrick. “Breaking down barriers and supporting those who turn to LA County as their lifeline is core to our mission. The awards are a testament to our staff’s dedication and commitment to the people we serve.”
