Expanding Cultural Horizons
LA County is a vibrant mosaic and LA County Library celebrates our rich cultural heritage and diversity with four distinct Cultural Resource Centers: the American Indian, Asian Pacific, Black, and Chicano Resource Centers. Each center serves as a gateway to history, art, and knowledge, representing some of the diverse communities that weave the fabric of Los Angeles. Each Center offers unique opportunities for individuals to learn more about their own cultural history as well as providing a path to learn about others.
Established in the mid-1970s, the library’s 4 Cultural Resource Centers archive and preserve the history of the communities they serve, including their role in the development of Los Angeles County.
Each Resource Center is run by a librarian with expert knowledge of both the material their center houses and the community it serves. They help a wide-range of people with research needs: school children doing homework, scholarly researchers, and community members learning about their roots.
Through their Teen Culture Clubs, the resource centers empower teens to engage in fun monthly programs and conversations around different cultures and issues from history to art.
