LA COUNTY, CA – LA County Library and Gloria Molina Grand Park have partnered to offer four new Little Libraries at the renowned 12-acre civic park located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles in LA County’s First District. The four Little Libraries, which feature LA County Library’s signature purple hue and Gloria Molina Grand Park’s iconic hot pink shade, are located near the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, Court of Flags, and Billy Johnson Playground.

Each Little Library features a small collection of books appropriate for all ages. Angelenos and visitors are encouraged to borrow a book or two and, in return, leave a book in the collection that others may enjoy. No library card is required to borrow a book, and books can be borrowed with no time limit. The Little Libraries are accessible during the park’s normal operating hours from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. A park map of the Little Libraries’ locations may be viewed online at grandparkla.org.

“As we face historic learning loss from the COVID-19 pandemic, libraries are key to bringing our children and communities back up to speed. That is why I am so grateful that The Music Center and the LA County Library have partnered to set up little libraries at Gloria Molina Grand Park so that Angelenos can have free access to books in an effort to expand knowledge, creativity, and imagination,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, First District.

“We are thrilled to partner with LA County Library to provide Angelenos with access to books whenever they visit Gloria Molina Grand Park,” said Robert Gonzales, director of Gloria Molina Grand Park. “With the new and exciting partnership, we are able to refresh our Little Libraries as well as encourage literacy. We invite all to participate in this revamped program whenever they visit the park for everyone.”

“Our goal is to break down barriers and make books more accessible,” said LA County Library Director Skye Patrick. “Our Little Libraries will help promote literacy and foster a sense of community for the diverse Angelenos that visit one of the most beloved civic parks in Southern California.”

LA County Library’s Little Libraries are publicly accessible book-sharing structures that serve as informal, community-based libraries that help foster a love for books and build a sense of community. In addition to the Little Libraries located at Gloria Molina Grand Park, LA County Library has two Little Libraries in the City of Avalon located near its Avalon Library.
