LA County Library Hosts Special Celebration for One Book, One County on July 27 with LA Public Library
Celebrating Community Connection and the Power of Storytelling at Gloria Molina Grand Park
LA County Library, in collaboration with Los Angeles Public Library, announces a special closing celebration event for One Book, One County on July 27, 2024, at Gloria Molina Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles from 5 – 7 pm. This event marks the conclusion of a two-month-long community reading initiative. The program has brought together 9.8 million residents of Los Angeles County to read and discuss “L.A. Weather” by María Amparo Escandón.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the conclusion of One Book, One County with this special event,” said Skye Patrick, CEO of LA County Library. “This program has highlighted the unifying power of books and stories in our diverse community, and we look forward to continuing this journey of shared experience and understanding.”
“This groundbreaking collaboration with 18 library systems across Southern California emphasizes the power of connected libraries fostering connected communities,” said City Librarian John F. Szabo, Los Angeles Public Library. “With L.A. Weather being the most read ‘Summer with the Library’ book, we are pleased that the selection resonated with so many Angelenos.”
The festivity will feature an exclusive author talk with María Amparo Escandón, providing attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the author of the New York Times bestseller. Escandón’s novel, published in 2022, explores the trials and triumphs of the Alvarado family in Los Angeles, highlighting themes of family loyalty, secrets, and survival.
In addition to the author talk, the event will include musical performances by Banda Las Angelinas, community resources, and engaging activities for all ages. Free parking is available at the Music Center Main Garage on Grand Avenue between 1st Street and Temple Street. Shuttle service is available at nine LA County Library locations, ensuring convenient access for attendees.
