LA County Library celebrated the reopening of the newly renovated Lynwood Library with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, Fourth District, LA County Library Director Dr. Skye Patrick, and members of the Lynwood community on September 4, .

The celebration marked the completion of an $8 million renovation that transformed the 12,000-square-foot library with modernized spaces, updated technology, expanded areas for community use, and improvements designed to better serve customers of all ages.

Originally built in 1977, Lynwood Library had not received significant upgrades since it first opened nearly five decades ago. Located near the Lynwood Civic Center and Lynwood Park, the library has long served as a community resource for residents seeking access to books, technology, educational opportunities, and other Library services.

“These upgrades to the Lynwood Library were long overdue. This community loves its library, they’ve been waiting so patiently for two long years while we renovated it, and now the day to welcome them back has finally come. I’m proud that we were able to deliver this state-of-the-art library to the families of Lynwood,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn. “There is something here for everybody, and this beautiful new space is going to inspire the next generation of leaders and learners here in Lynwood.”

The newly renovated library includes dedicated adult, teen, and children’s areas, an enlarged community room, two group study rooms, a new customer service desk, express self-checkout machines, public access computers, and Wi-Fi. Two large skylights bring additional natural light into the building, while drought-tolerant landscaping enhances the exterior of the library.

The redesigned spaces provide more opportunities for children and families to learn together, students to study and complete schoolwork, adults to access technology and resources, and community members to gather for Library programs and activities.

“The reopening of Lynwood Library is an important investment in the people and future of Lynwood,” said Dr. Skye Patrick, County Librarian and Director of LA County Library. “Libraries are deeply rooted in the communities they serve, and we are proud to once again open these doors to residents with a renewed space designed to support their everyday needs, aspirations, and opportunities. We are excited to begin this next chapter alongside the Lynwood community.”

The Lynwood Library renovation is part of a broader investment in libraries serving Southeast Los Angeles County. When the project was announced, Lynwood was identified as the first of five libraries slated for refurbishment with support from Supervisor Hahn’s office, along with Huntington Park Library, Bell Library, Leland R. Weaver Library in South Gate, and Maywood César Chávez Library.

LA County Library provides resources that extend well beyond traditional library services, connecting residents with early learning opportunities, educational support, technology, workforce resources, and programs that support lifelong learning. The renovation ensures Lynwood residents have access to a modern library facility designed to support the changing needs of the community for years to come.
