Adopt a Shelter Dog Month
October is Adopt‑a‑Shelter Dog Month
We are recognizing the big role our community plays in giving shelter dogs a second chance. Our Animal Care Centers are often stretched thin and have pets ready to go to a new home. When you adopt, you’re doing more than welcoming a pet into your home – you’re making space for the next dog that needs help.
We’ve partnered with the Department of Animal Care & Control to host 6 adoption clinics at libraries across Los Angeles County. Youth in attendance will be invited to Read to a Rover, a program that allows youth to read to shelter dogs in cages to boost their confidence and connect with a furry friend.
We also have a curated booklist which provides information about pet health, behavior, and care, increasing the chances you adoption will be successful and long lasting. Scroll through our event feed to find a “Read to a Dog” program where kids can read aloud to dogs to improve reading skills, gain confidence, and build empathy.
Visit Animal Care and Control to view available pets for adoption, license your pet, donate to support, and so much more.
