“Are we alone in the Universe?” is a question that has preoccupied humanity for centuries. The most exciting possibility for life is exoplanets, planets outside the Solar System. Scientists theorize that the best place for life to exist would be on planets in the habitable zones of others stars, planets that match Earth’s features.
Evan Hilgemann will speak at the library about the history of mankind’s search for other worlds, and the cutting-edge research being done today to identify the exoplanets most likely to sustain life. A mechanical engineer from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, his job responsibilities range from new technology development to mature flight system design, largely focusing on advanced deployable systems, spacecraft mechanisms, and robotics. Evan is drawn to this field by the inherent sense of exploration and adventure, and he enjoys sharing the thrill of space exploration with the community.
