Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by creating your own Nierikas yarn painting. Nierikas is the traditional name for the yarn paintings made by the Huichol people. Descendants of the Aztec, the Huichol people number about 18,000, and mostly live in the sierra of Jalisco and Nayarit, Mexico. The yarn paintings portray the Huichol belief that people are connected to nature and all living things. The Huichols believe it is their duty to take care of the earth because they depend on it for survival. All materials will be provided. Participants can create their own design or use provided templates.
