Event Details

Celebrate comic books, graphic novels & Star Wars at our annual Attack of the Comic Books! There will be activities for various age groups, including a drawing and comic book making workshop with Carlos Nieto III, superhero creation stations and STEM activities hosted by MākMō. End the afternoon by perusing the comic book and science fiction inspired art created by Edward Middle School students.

11 am – 12 pm: How to Draw Comics with Carlos Nieto, III. Learn the basic drawing techniques and learn how to make comics. For ages 8 and older.

12:15 – 1:15 pm: Star Wars Trivia. Test your Star Wars knowledge for a chance to win prizes! For ages 8 and older. This activity is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Sorensen Library.

11 am – 12 pm: MākMō: Magna Tiles. What science fiction-inspired structure can you create with magnetic tiles? For ages 5 – 12 and their families.

11 am – 3 pm: Superhero Creation Stations.* Create a superhero costume and accessories, including a friendly foam lightsaber. For ages 2 – older and their families. This activity is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Sorensen Library.

11 am – 3 pm: Face Painting.* Show your Star Wars or superhero pride. For ages 1 – 16. This activity is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Sorensen Library.

12 – 1:30 pm: Gaming. Play popular cross-over video games. For ages 10 – 17.

1:30 – 2:30 pm: MākMō: Wind Tunnel.* Create a space jet and test if it’s ready for a mission in a wind tunnel. For ages 5 and older.

1:30 – 3 pm: MākMō: Makey. Create video game controllers with ordinary objects and play the classic game, Space Invaders. For ages 10 – 17.

1:30 – 2:30 pm: LED Star Wars Greeting Cards.*Create a lightsaber greeting card. For ages 18 and older. This activity is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Sorensen Library.

2:30 – 3:00 pm: Art Gallery. Enjoy Star Wars and science fiction inspired art created by Katherine Edwards Middle School students.

There will be comic book & comic book related vendors throughout the day. The first 100 children will receive an Attack of the Comic Books re-usable bag and comic books.

Throughout the day there will be comic book vendors, fun comic book and Star Wars photo props, and art activities for all ages!
