Celebrate Arab American Heritage Month

Can you tell me about Arab American Heritage Month?

Arab America and the Arab America Foundation launched the National Arab American Heritage Month initiative in 2017, with just a handful of states recognizing the initiative. Now, it is truly a nation-wide celebration!

In April 2023, the LA County Board of Supervisors proclaimed the month of April as National Arab American Heritage Month. During the month of April, LA County Library, along with the Arab America Foundation, is celebrating the achievements of Arab Americans through the celebration of National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM).

For over a century, Arab Americans have been making valuable contributions to virtually every aspect of American society: in medicine, law, business, education, technology, government, military service, and culture. Since migrating to America, people of Arab descent have shared their rich culture and traditions with neighbors and friends, while also setting fine examples of model citizens and public servants.

Across the United States, cultural institutions, school districts, municipalities, state legislatures, public servants, non-profit organizations, and LA County Library are engaging in special events that celebrate Arab Americans’ rich heritage, culture and contributions to our nation.

For more information about Arab American Heritage Month, including promoting the Arab heritage, educating Americans about Arab history, religion, culture, contributions, and connecting the close to 4 million Arab Americans in the US, visit ArabAmericaFoundation.org.
