How to Photograph Foreign Subjects

Photographing foreign subjects collagePhotographer Jonathan Selig will teach participants how to travel-photograph strangers without speaking their language.  Jonathan is emeritus instructor at the Nikon School of Photography and Time-Life Learning.  Around the globe or on an urban street, photographing others has nothing to do with a common tongue and everything to do with human connection and mutual agreement.  Show others who you are and they will connect with you.

Over the last 50 years, Jonathan has produced bold, intimate images that capture the nuances of these encounters.  He began his professional career in his teens and has shot the Olympics, the Oscars, and everything in between.  His work embodies a collaborative spirit between photographer and subject, exhibiting both reverence and relationship.

For teens 14+ and adults.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Malibu Library.
